Old world woodworking techniques using hand tools and modern machinery couple the finesse and detail of today with the nuances and textures of the past. J. Filmore Thompson, a former jeweler of 30 years, has been crafting custom cabinetry for over 15 years, and can design and create your own personal heirloom.
J. Filmore Thompson uses traditional joinery such as handcut dovetails or through mortise and tenons to make handmade frames around raised panels and arched door fronting. Inlays bring contrast and fluidity to the project and cabinetry is accentuated with complex mouldings or cornices.
Hardware is unique to each piece; some in hand forged iron, others in cast bronze or brass.
J. Filmore Thompson offers a variety of classical and exotic woods from local resources like walnut, maples, oaks, mahogany, bubinga, jatoba, and sipo. All are available to complete your old world furniture ideas.
