Old World Custom Woodworking

HANDMADE 18TH & 19TH CENTURY PERIOD PIECES
Custom Design - Constructing Functional Furniture

J. Filmore Thompson has been crafting custom projects and personal heirlooms for over 20 years. He specializes in old-world woodworking techniques using hand tools and modern machinery to create remarkable pieces which are sophisticated in finesse and detail.

Deliberately sensitive to the traditional methods and textures of the past, Jeff uses traditional joinery such as hand-cut dovetails. He uses mortise and tenons to make handmade frames around raised panels and arched door fronting. The items are accentuated with inlays, complex moldings, and cornices to bring contrast and fluidity to each project. You will find his attention to detail also extends to the hardware - selecting fixtures unique to each piece (some in hand-forged iron, others in cast bronze, brass, or locks that have been made in England since the 1800s.
